Your couch is not going to crash - I hope!

Nicholas Springer

You know that new mower you bought that is going to cut your mowing time in half? Do you know how is it covered under your home policy?

Well, not like you think it is! It's Basically covered just like your couch is.

So, what can happen to your couch? It gets stolen? It burns in a fire. A water pipe can break and it can get damaged. But it will probably never collide with anything. As in, roll down the street and collide with another couch head-on. (Technically the damage it does to other things and people could be covered but the damage it sustains will not be covered.)

A couch that definitely does not need collision insurance
A couch that definitely does not need collision insurance!

Why? Because Collison coverage is not an option on your home policy. It’s on your auto policy because that is something that can and does happen. It’s just not something that happens to the average person’s Couch.

Put it on the schedule!

When something is specifically listed on a policy, it is scheduled on that policy. Meaning that one specific item is listed on the policy, generally for open peril, but there are going to be exceptions.

In order to really cover anything that drives, whether it be an eBike, Motorcycle or riding lawnmower, it must be on the right policy and it must include Collision coverage. We have a few policies just for this purpose – to cover your mobile items that just might crash into something.
